Google's Call Screening Transcriptions Start Rolling-Out for Pixel Owners

Google has started rolling out transcriptions for Android's call screening service (via  9to5google ). The Call Screen feature uses Google Assistant to answer the phone on your behalf to screen calls from unknown numbers. The only way to see a conversation before was to witness it in real time - the new transcriptions save a copy for later viewing. To find it, head info the Recent Calls of the Phone app, find a call that Google's screening service answered on your behalf, and select Call Details from the menu. If you have the latest update, you should be able to pick the See Transcript option. From here you'll be able to read the transcript, as well as rate its quality. Transcription support hasn't rolled out to everyone just yet, but after Google confirmed the feature would be available before the end of the year, it's unlikely to be long before all US Pixel owners get access. If you're outside of the US then you might have to wait a little longer. For no...

Google Pixel 3 Lite leaks again right next to Pixel 3 this time

Google Pixel 3 Lite Although it has past said it's only focusing on the high end of the marketplace with its smartphones, Google is now working on mid-range Pixel 3 version. This device, codenamed Sargo, has been leaked a week ago for the first time and since then we've also  seen purported camera samples . Today Sargo (which is going to be called Google Pixel 3 Lite) leaks again, this time in a shot in which it's right next to a Pixel 3.  If the similarities between these two handsets are confusing you, note that the Lite model on the left, the Pixel 3 on the right. The Lite's screen is marginally taller than the Pixel 3's, as it has a 5.56" diagonal (compared to 5.5") and an aspect ratio of 18:5:9, not 18:9.  The Pixel 3 Lite is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 670 SoC and 4 GB of RAM, 32GB of storage (though hopefully this is just the base model and you'll be able to buy a model with 64GB too) and a   2,915 mAh battery Incidentally, th...

Mid-Range Google Pixel 3 Lite Leaks with Headphone Jack and Snapdragon 670

We've heard of the possibility of Google announcing a mid-range Pixel device but we weren't really sure when. There were a couple of codenames (Sargo and Bonito) that were mentioned in an APK teardown .  Today's new leak reveals much more about a mid-range Google phone thanks to some new leaked photos released by Rozetked. The photos reveal that Google's new mid-range smartphone will have a 3.5 mm headphone jack and a design similar to  the Google Pixel 2 . Otherwise, the  photos show the phone to have a glossy frame, which means it might be made of plastic. The white model that was photographed has a neon green power key and otherwise looks just like a Pixel 2 with a headphone jack and a taller display. The phone was also run through GeekBench (unofficially confirming the Sargo codename) and a couple of other benchmarking apps so there are a bunch of new purported specs:  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 + Adreno 615  • 4GB of RAM + 32GB of Storage...

Google Says Dark Mode Can Help Improve Battery Life of Android Devices

Google has finally confirmed that dark mode on Android phones uses less power and saves battery life. Google revealed a bit of information on how your smartphone spends its battery life. They did this at this week's Android Dev Summit, speaking to developers about what they can do in their apps to avoid consuming massive amounts of battery life. "But this isn't just about that. This is about the biggest factor in battery consumption: screen brightness And not only that, but screen colour too,"  Slash Gear reported  late Thursday. Dark mode essentially changes the overall colour theme of an operating system (OS) or applications to the colour black. During the presentation, the Internet giant added how dark mode can use 43 percent less power at full brightness than "normal mode" in the YouTube app which traditionally uses a lot of white, according to Business Insider. The tech giant reportedly acknowledged its mistake of encouraging app develop...

Android will natively support devices with "Foldable" to limit fragmentation

Google is officially announcing support for a category of Android devices it’s decided to call “Foldables.” Speaking today at the Android Developer Summit, VP of engineering Dave Burke said that Google is “enhancing Android to take advantage of this new form factor with as little work as necessary.” But as of right now, those enhancements are mostly just guidance for developers to start using already-existing features that are built into Android. If you haven’t heard, devices with folding displays are about to become a thing. Today is the day when Samsung start showing its phone with a folding display at its developer conference, which is happening at the same time as Google’s summit. Google is working closely with Samsung on how Android will develop foldables. But Google’s focus is on making sure that it becomes a platform-level thing for Android that any OEM can use. That’s important because Google has been waging a never-ending battle against fragmentation on Android, and a...
